Privacy policy
This page explains what information Flag Master (this site) handles.
What we collect and what we don’t
This site has no member accounts. Everything works without signing up.
We do not collect your real name, email address, home address, or phone number in order for you to play.
The contact form does not collect email addresses. What you send is used only to improve the site, such as fixing mistakes or deleting records. The form is a Google Form. Because we don’t have your email address, we can’t reply.
Only when you put a record on the leaderboard do we send the name you chose and your record (see “What is sent to the leaderboard”).
What is saved only on your device
What you do while playing is normally saved only on your device (the browser on your phone or computer). It leaves your device only when you choose to transfer it yourself (see “Transfer”).
- Settings (sound, color theme, question type, and so on)
- Results (countries you missed, Daily Puzzle results, and so on)
- Adventure progress
- Badges
- Error log (notes on when something didn’t work; this is not included in a transfer and is never sent off your device)
- Site files (screens, flags, and maps). They are saved on your device so the site opens quickly and you can play even offline. They contain no personal information.
If you clear the browser’s site data, these are cleared too.
What is sent to the leaderboard
Only when you decide to put a record on the leaderboard do we send the following. It goes to Supabase, a database service.
Profile
- Your name, whether your profile is public, your current title, your decoration, and the number of badges you have earned are sent.
- To link your profile to your device, your device creates a “passphrase.” The site never keeps the passphrase itself. It stores only a version that cannot be reversed (a hash).
Records
Three kinds of records can go on the leaderboard: Time Attack, Daily Puzzle, and Adventure. Your name and the numbers used for ranking, such as your time, number of right answers, and level, are sent.
If your profile is private
If you make your profile private, your profile card shows only your name, your decoration, and a short note saying the profile is private. The card does not show your title, number of badges, or a summary of your records.
Even if your profile is private, the leaderboard tables show your name and records (such as times).
Transfer
To move to another device, the data on your current device (settings, results, Adventure, badges, and so on, but not the error log) is stored with us, and you get a transfer code. The code stops working after 24 hours. The stored data is deleted in a later cleanup.
About Supabase
When your browser communicates with Supabase, the IP address of your connection may be kept in Supabase’s logs.
Rules for names
Do not use your real name or your school’s name as a leaderboard name. Names that would upset other people are not allowed either.
If a name breaks these rules or a record looks wrong, the site owner may delete or change the name or record.
Asking for deletion
To have a leaderboard name or record deleted, please send a request through the contact form.
Deleted records may remain for a while in a backup kept in case something is deleted by mistake.
External services we use
This site uses the following services to show its pages. When you open a page, your browser communicates with these services.
- GitHub Pages (where this site is hosted)
- Google Fonts (fonts)
- Google Forms (contact, only when you send something)
The map code (d3 and topojson-client) is served from this site itself, so drawing the map does not involve any outside service.
Ads
This site may use ad services such as Google’s.
Ad services may use cookies to show ads that match your interests. Cookies do not contain information that identifies you, such as your name or email address.
To stop personalized ads, change your Google ad settings. How Google uses cookies is explained in Google’s Privacy & Terms (Advertising).
Analytics
This site does not use any analytics service (a tool that measures things like how many people visit).
Changes to this page
The contents of this page may change as needed. If they change, we will announce it on this page.
