What the flag means
Blue and red are said to be colors linked to France, and yellow and red to Spain (Catalonia), reflecting a history of two joint heads of state. The emblem in the center shows the miter and staff of the Bishop of Urgell, the stripes of Foix and Catalonia, and the cows of Béarn.
